Our Commitment to Sustainability
The Alpina Gstaad has been awarded the Gold certification from EarthCheck for the third consecutive year - an honour that acknowledges our commitment to sustainable practices in our daily operations.
Our path towards a sustainable future
Since 2016, we have pursued a holistic sustainability approach, recognizing our responsibility toward the planet and being aware of the impact our activities have on the environment and the community. Our goal is to measure, manage, and reduce these environmental impacts. This commitment to sustainability was first recognized in 2017 with the Silver certification from EarthCheck. Since then, we undergo a rigorous annual audit and certification process that evaluates the continuous development of our efforts, leading to the first award of the Gold certification from EarthCheck in 2022.
EarthCheck - Certification Standard for Sustainable Tourism
EarthCheck is the world's leading science-based certification standard for the tourism and travel industry. Since 1987, the organization has supported businesses in creating environmentally responsible, socially equitable, and economically viable destinations. The performance of certified companies is evaluated across seven core areas, which include energy, water, waste, community, paper, cleaning products, and pesticides.
For each of these areas, EarthCheck has developed specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Greenhouse Gas Emissions
- Energy Efficiency, Conservation & Management
- Management of Freshwater Resources
- Ecosystem Conservation & Management
- Management of Social & Cultural Issues
- Land Use Planning & Management
- Air Quality Protection & Noise Control
- Wastewater Management
- Solid Waste Management
- Storage of Environmentally Harmful Substances
The Alpina Gstaad reports annually on the mentioned KPIs and received the third Gold certification this year based on these criteria.
Outlook
In addition to our annual reporting, we actively promote the development of sustainability initiatives internally, on which we provide continuous updates. Finally, we aim to serve as a global platform to stimulate dialogue about the future of our planet and our responsibility for it.
